How Social Are You?

We certainly hear much about social media…some good….some not-so-good.  As we focus on career and workforce development, we are seeing more and more opportunities to use this current networking tool to the great benefit of many job-seekers.

The Department of Labor conducted an online survey and the following tools were recommended by the public.  They are currently on the CareerOneStop.org website under “Job Seeker Tools”.  There is always much for us to learn….see what you think of these:

LinkedIn seems to be THE business networking site. Job seekers must have a presence on both LinkedIn and FB! Most companies who have pages on LinkedIn are posting jobs there, and also making announcements through HR groups. The future is here.

Yes, I agree that LinkedIn is really catching on in the businees community - what an amazing shift from when I graduated from college and tried to find a position by writing hundreds of letters to companies - in a cold call format, just hoping they were hiring. Now with everything online it is so much easier to find a position! Which is one more reason that those who do not have computer skills or ready access to a computer are literally being left behind.

I wish LinkedIn would have been available years ago when I graduated from college. It was usually by word of mouth when we found out about job openings. Now all the websites make it so easy for everyone to connect with the world of work. So many websites with so much information!
